The Entanglements, Attachments, and Bondages of American Politics

I think many people who hear about the Shemitah view it with much fear. But never forget God is good, kind, and gentle and He only increases the hardship on people when they refuse to acknowledge Him. (Tweet that!) Then He turns up the pressure in order to get their attention and bring them to Himself, which is a further manifestation of His goodness, kindness, and gentleness. (Tweet that!)

Another manifestation of a Shemitah judgment in America author Jonathan Cahn gives in his book, The Mystery of the Shemitah (page 241) is this:

"The judgment will release entanglements, attachments, and bondages within the nation and among the nations."

How might this look in America? The first thing that comes to my mind is our Politics.

In American, politics have become so convoluted they can no longer function. Over the years, some politicians have become so entrench that we will never be able to get them removed. Part of this includes the favors owed to them and the favors they owe. One example is the votes they have promised to give or get on certain issues. This why we can get nothing good done. (Tweet that!)

Many politicians, (dare I say most?) no longer vote for what is good for America or what is best for their constituents. Rather they vote on who owes who favors. It's the trading of "political capital" meaning political power.

What if all this owing and paying was wiped away?  Would this not be a good thing?

Don't misunderstand. I'm not saying it wouldn't be painful for our country. But to wipe clean entanglements, attachments, and bondages within nations would give us a chance to start fresh. And hopefully not make the same mistakes of "borrowing" and "owing" political power. (Tweet that!)

Related to that, at least in my mind, author Jonathan Cahn also notes on page 242 that a Shemitah judgment would...

"…wipe away structure of culture, of systems, of civilization."

I think of our structure of political culture, our political system, and it seems to be to be so entrenched in corruption now that, even though we have good people trying to make inroads, perhaps nothing will be able to make an impact soon enough unless it is wiped clean. (Tweet that!)

In the previous post, Part 1, we began addressing the question, "Does the Shemitah apply to America?" Continuing, here is another piece of information from Jonathan Cahn's book, The Harbinger Companion with Study Guide, page 88: (Tweet that!)

The greatest collapse of the 2008 economic implosion and the greatest stock market crash in American history happened on September 29, 2008. That day on the biblical calendar was the twenty-ninth day of Elul, the final, crowning day of the Hebrew Shemitah—and the exact day appointed by God for the wiping away of a nation's financial accounts. 

The Shemitah revolves around the number seven. So the number seven arises over and over again concerning the economic collapse of 2008. The great collapse happened on the crowning day of the seventh year. It was triggered on Capitol Hill when Congress rejected a $700 billion bailout plan. Seven percent of the market was wiped out. And the number of points wiped away was 777. 

In order to trigger all of these "sevens," all of Wall Street, the American and world economies, every economic and financial transaction, had to be an exact position for it all to happen as it did, at the exact time and to that exact number. No human hand could have orchestrated it.

Does the Shemitah Apply to America? - Part 1

Does the Shemitah apply to America? (Tweet that!)

In his book The Harbinger Companion with Study Guide on page 85, author Jonathan Cahn addresses this question. He acknowledges that the law of the Shemitah was given to Israel long before America existed.

Also, America has never been obligated to observe a Sabbath year. (Tweet that!)

But then Jonathan Cahn explains that the Shemitah is a biblical "sign of judgment on a nation that has driven God out of its life." (Tweet that!) That describes America…more than most people acknowledge.

While I do not wish to borrow too much from Mr. Cahn's book (which I certainly recommend to you), he is such an excellent teacher and shares so much great information. And I certainly can't explain it more succinctly than he does. So here are a few paragraphs from his book:

Thus, it is the Shemitah as a biblical sign of national judgment in the context of the warning of America that now concerns us. 

Behind the crash of Wall Street and the collapse of the American economy lies the mystery of the Shemitah. 

In 2008 the collapse of Lehman Brothers and America's economy took place over the course of a week, the anniversary week of 9/11. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac collapsed on September 7 of that year. Two days later Lehman Brothers began its fall, and on September 11, 2008, the stock market took a precipitous plunge. 

Exactly seven years separated the two events, the precise biblical period of time that concerns the Shemitah. The economic collapse, from housing to finance, concerned a forced wiping away of the nation's financial accounts—the outward form of the Shemitah. In the case of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government relieved them of debts exceeding $5 trillion. In the case of Lehman Brothers, its bankruptcy wiped away its debts and canceled its loans. 

All these events helped trigger a stock market crash, touching the whole world and wiping out all gains over the preceding seven years and then some. The 2008 global economic collapse was one colossal Shemitah, made up of countless smaller ones.

U.S. Vice Presidential Candidate John Edwards Quoted Bible Prophecy Verse Isaiah 9:10 in Speech on September 11 Anniversary

This week we've looked at the words American leaders spoke in response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. (Tweet that!) Tuesday we saw another comment by then-Senator John Kerry. (Tweet that!) Thursday we witnessed Senate Majority leader Tom Daschle quote Isaiah 9:10 in his speech. (Tweet that!)

Fast forward three years to the third anniversary of the attacks. Again, I'm quoting from The Harbinger Companion with Study Guide by Jonathan Cahn, pages 54-56 (emphasis added):

The date was September 11, 2004. The event was the third anniversary of the 9/11 breach. The speaker was the senator and vice president candidate John Edwards. The place was America's capital city of Washington.

Speaking at a gathering of congressional caucus, Edwards uttered these words:

"Good morning. Today, on this day of remembrance and mourning, we have the Lord's Word to get us through:

The bricks have fallen
But we will rebuild with dressed stones
The sycamores have been cut down
But we will put cedars in their place..."

By quoting Isaiah 9:10, a major American candidate for high office had precisely uttered Israel's ancient vow. He had meant it to be a positive inspiration to the audience. He or presumably his speechwriter didn't read the context. No one realized that in quoting the text, he was unwittingly highlighting America's defiance in response to calamity, following the exact pattern set by Israel’s original defiance revealed in the text. In other words, the utterance joined the Assyrian invasion to 9/11 and America’s post-9/11 defiance to Israel’s defiance in the face of God’s judgment.

Even more amazing, the entire speech delivered that day was built around that same ancient vow. Edwards took the objects of Isaiah 9:10, the sycamore, the cedar or erez tree, and the hewn stone, and used them as figures or symbols of 9/11, America's response to 9/11, and what he believed to be national resurgence…

Intending to deliver an inspiring address, he was unwittingly pronouncing judgment on America.

There is so much more going on here…about the sycamore and cedar (erez) trees, and the hewn stone. If you haven't read one or both books by Jonathan Cahn, I strongly suggest you do so: The Harbinger (presents this material in fiction) and The Harbinger Companion with Study Guide (nonfiction).

Since then…

John Edwards served one six-year term as a Senator from North Carolina. In 2004 he became the Democratic candidate for vice president of the United States with running mate for president Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts. In 2011 Edwards was indicted by a grand jury on six felony charges of violating federal campaign contribution laws to cover up an extramarital affair to which he admitted after his 2008 campaign. He was found not guilty on one count and a mistrial was declared on the remaining charges. Currently John Edwards works at his law firm he started in 2011 with his former partner, David Kirby, and his daughter Cate.

In the previous post we looked at then-Senator John Kerry's words in his speech on the floor of the U.S. Senate the day after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and how his words paralleled the defiance against God echoing from ancient Israel in Isaiah 9:10. But John Kerry was not the only United States leader who made a speech that day. (Tweet that!)

If I may simply quote a short portion of Jonathan Cahn's book The Harbinger Companion with Study Guide, because he explains it so succinctly:

On the morning of September 12, 2001, a day after America's calamity, the al Qaeda breach, the US Senate and House of Representatives, the representative bodies of the entire American nation, issued a joint resolution in response to 9/11. 

After the resolution was read, condemning the attacks, expressing condolences, and calling for unity, a war against the terrorists, and punishment of the guilty parties, the Senate majority Leader, Tom Daschle, the highest representative of the nation's highest legislative body, rose to speak. 

At the end of the speech, Daschle uttered the following: 

I know that there is only the smallest measure of inspiration that can be taken from this devastation, but there is a passage in the Bible from Isaiah that I think speaks to all of us at times like this… 

The bricks have fallen down,
But we will rebuild with dressed stone;
The fig trees have been felled,
But we will replace them with cedars.

Could it be clearer? On the day after the terrorist attacks 9/11, on the floor of the very place that represents all the people of America, Isaiah 9:10 was spoken to us and on behalf of us.

However, this Bible verse is not something that pleases God. Rather, it is a statement of defiance against God!

This is not a coincidence. This is not a mistake. This surely was not planned by Tom Daschle. (I'd really really really like to know who the speech writer was. Just curious.) But as I said in my previous post, this is God showing up, whispering to all who will listen, making Himself known, through the leaders He has put in power over us. (Tweet that!) He is using them and guiding their every word.

Is that not a display of the answer to prayer of those who pray for our leaders as we are commanded to do in the Bible? (Tweet that!) Of course it is.

Do not worry. God is at work. We are in His hands. (Tweet that!)

In last week's posts we explored the important spiritual connections between the words of our leaders and the impact these words have in real ways on our nation.

If John Kerry's words, "If Allah wills it," surprised you, there are many more examples of similar statements by leaders in America that you need to know about. These include incredible spiritual statements made by America's leaders after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. (Tweet that!) We will look at three of these this week, beginning with another statement by John Kerry the day after the 9/11 attacks.

In the hours and days following the terrorists attacks and the fall of the twin World Trade Center towers, many (if not most) Americans held a spirit of defiance – we would not allow this attack to go unanswered. We would respond. For me, that reaction is completely understandable and I was right there among everyone else.

It is important for me to say that I do not blame any U.S. leader for the words they said or in any way think they did anything wrong. They did not even know they were being used by God in those moments. (Tweet that!)  But God was and is using these leaders to communicate, in His often-quite ways, to all who will listen. (Tweet that!)  Here's what happened…

At the time, John Kerry was a senior Senator from Massachusetts. On September 12, 2001, the day after the 9/11 attacks, John Kerry delivered a speech on the floor of the United States Senate in response to the 9/11 attacks. John Kerry said:

"I believe one of the first things we should commit to -- with federal help that underscores our nation's purpose -- is to rebuild the towers of the World Trade Center and show the world we are not afraid. We are defiant!"

But who, really, are we defying?

I, John Kerry, and certainly everyone else meant our defiance against the terrorists. But is that what really is taking place?

In the years since, an amazing network of facts have emerged, detailed by the work of Jonathan Cahn in his book The Harbinger (presents this material in fiction) and The Harbinger Companion with Study Guide (nonfiction). If you're not familiar with Jonathan Cahn's work, this is fascinating material. I’m sharing from his work and I highly recommend you read his books if you haven’t yet. If you are familiar, you may, as I am, appreciate a review of these facts and details in history.

Let's suppose for now that this terrorist attack of 9/11/2001 were, in fact, allowed by God in order to get the attention of America, a nation that was founded on His principals and that is straying away from Him. (Tweet that!) Just suppose.

Now, if that were true, then our defiance would not be defiance against terrorists, but rather defiance against God. (Tweet that!)

I don't know how that strikes you. You may react with skepticism, anger, or curiosity. But let's just explore the possibility. Because Jonathan Cahn has uncovered some amazing parallels that support that possibility. I'll be detailing these in future posts.

This possibility is based on a Scripture verse: Isaiah 9:10.

The setting is ancient Israel. Dateline: 732 B.C. At that time in history, the nation of Israel is divided into two kingdoms: Israel in the north and Judah in the south. The brutal Assyrian empire (modern day Iraq), led by Assyrian king Tiglath-Pileser III, attacked and sacked the northern kingdom of Israel. This could only happen if there was a breach in the "wall" of God's promised protection of Israel…which occurred because Israel was straying away from its foundation on the One True God.

After this breach, the leaders of Israel refused to see this as a warning from God. Instead, this is what the Bible records Israel's leaders as saying:

"Who say in pride and arrogance of heart: 

"The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with hewn [quarried] stones. The sycamores have been cut down, but we will plant cedars in their place."

Fast forward to the day after al Qaeda, based in Iraq which is ancient Assyria, attacked the United States. (Tweet that!) A senior leader in the United States Senate firmly announces:

"[We] should…rebuild the towers of the World Trade Center and show the world we are not afraid. We are defiant!"

One thing that caught my attention is the seemingly "easy" conversion the Kerry ancestors made from Jews to Catholics. But according to the article, it seems this conversion was because they were experiencing some level of persecution for being Jewish, at least in their business dealings if not more.

My intention is not to criticize, but to just point it out so we can discuss what true conversion is and means.

A person cannot or does not change between religions by the swipe of a pen. A true conversion does not take place simply so they will find it easier to do business.  A true religion is a set of beliefs that a person honestly believes to be true. If a person truly believes in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, then you don't suddenly give all that up just so business will be better or easier.

On the other hand, it's easy to change religions if there is no true belief there. (Tweet that!)

In the case of Jewish people, this is not only a religion but also a race. So that means that there can be religions Jews, who truly believe the Torah (what Christians call the Old Testament). But then there can also be non-religious Jews, which means they are Jewish by race but there is no real belief in anything religious. I've heard these called "secular Jews."

For Christians – and I mean true Christians – there must be an understanding of who Jesus is and what he did and a conscious decision to become a Christian. (Tweet that!) No one is born a Christian. However in some countries the term "christian" is understood to be anyone who is not Muslim. (Tweet that!)

My point in all this is to say that for true religion, and for an honestly religions person, there are beliefs that are truly held and, in that case, are not easily scrapped and left behind. For someone to believe any person can jump from one religion to another means none of these beliefs really matter, or perhaps they are all in essence the same and there is no difference.

This is massive spiritual confusion. We're seeing a lot of spiritual confusion in the world today. (Tweet that!)

In the case of John Kerry, we have a U.S. leader with Jewish blood who is Catholic proclaiming, "If Allah wills it." (Tweet that!)

Is that not spiritual confusion?

But it is fascinating that this representative of the United States, the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry now seems to be connected to Jews by blood, to Christians by the faith he claims, and now, through his pronouncement on March 27, 2015, to Islam. (Tweet that!)

In the previous post we looked at U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry answering a question about if there will be a nuclear deal with Iran with the phrase "Inshallah," which means, "If Allah wills it."

Isn't what John Kerry said offensive to the One True God (who is not Allah)? Some say Christians and Jews worship the same God as the Muslims but this is not true. The God of the Bible is not the same as Allah. The God of the Bible is about love and life and protecting the truth in the revelation of who He is. (Tweet that!) In contrast, Allah apparently instructs the hatred and death, beheading, drowning, bombing, terrorist's acts and other forms of killing Christians and Jews. 

Christians know and believe the One True God came in human flesh as Jesus the Nazarene. Jesus IS God. Ask any Muslim if they worship Jesus as God. They do not, proving we do not worship the same God. (Tweet that!)

Muslims will say Jesus is a "prophet," an equal to Muhammad. Jesus was not "just a prophet." Jesus is God, come in human flesh, who died and is alive again. (Tweet that!) In contrast, Muhammad is dead.

When John Kerry, the Secretary of State of the United States, says "if Allah wills it," what is he doing?!

He could be trying to connect with the people he is in company with at those negotiations: Muslims. (Tweet that!)

He could be ignorant of the important differences between Allah, the god of Muslims who chant "Death to America," and the One True God of Heaven and all the earth, but I doubt it. As a Catholic* he should know better. (Tweet that!)

Does he think and believe his praise to Allah has power? Or that it has no power? (Tweet that!)

It is "praise," because his use of this phrase puts Allah in the position of God Almighty – instead of relying on the One True God, the God of the Bible in whom belief in the United States of America was founded on.  

So what do you think? Is it really that important what a leader of the United States says about God? (Tweet that!) Does a pronouncement like this make a difference to anyone or in anything having to do with our nation?

Yes, it matters. Big time. It matters more than most people can even imagine.

There is power in words. The Bible is God's Word. And Jesus, who embodies everything the Bible says, is The Word personified.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning... The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:1-2, 14)

This is talking about the Man, Jesus.

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. (Luke 6:45)

We can see what is truly in a person's heart, what he believes by what comes out his or her mouth.

It's not the first time John Kerry, or others in the highest leadership positions in the United States of America, has spoken out in defiance of the One True God of the Bible. (Tweet that!) It is so important for you to be aware of these statements that we're going to look at these spiritual pronouncements in a series of posts starting next Tuesday. (Tweet that!) (New articles here on the blog are posted Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.)

On March 27, 2015, while negotiating a deal with Iran concerning nuclear weapons on behalf of the United States of America, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was asked if there would be a deal. His response: "Inshallah." This phrase means, "If Allah wills it." (Tweet that!)

Do John Kerry's words hold any real power over the United States of America? (Tweet that!) Are these just words? Or is there a spiritual power activated by these words and others words like these that can and will have real ramifications in our nation?

The answer is yes, Secretary of State John Kerry's words hold great meaning and great power spiritually and prophetically. (Tweet that!) If you don't know it, this means real happenings in the real world that affects us.

Spiritual words spoken by national leaders hold more power, I would say, than most Americans dare to imagine. I base that on looking out my window. I'm watching most Americans this very day going about their daily business apparently completely oblivious to what is happening in our nation and in the world. (Tweet that!) Yes, I know some of you are very tuned in and aware of so much that is happening of spiritual and prophetic importance. And honestly we're all going about our daily business and it's impossible to tell who is aware and who is not. But still, it seems so many people are completely oblivious.

I'm writing this blog to encourage you, to keep you informed on happenings that you may not be aware of, as well as to have a place to discuss what you are aware of.

I'm also writing this blog to inform those who, until now reading this post, are or have been oblivious. (Tweet that!)

Still other people may have a sense that something is going on, something is happening, but haven't yet figured out how to sift through all the noise to find what's true. (Tweet that!)

In addition to that, I think most people think words don't really have an impact other than on those who hear them. In other words, most people don't realize, or don't believe, that words can have a spiritual and prophetic impact that translates into real consequences in our world and our lives.  (Tweet that!)

The spiritual importance of what John Kerry said is vastly important and powerful. It will have implications in the United States of America (though I'm not wise enough to be able to tell you exactly what consequences at this point). John Kerry was literally praising the "God" of the Muslims in defiance of the One True God of Christians and Jews. (Tweet that!) His words will have a profound effect on our "Christian" nation (that is, Christian-founded and Christian-based). 

What we say matters. What our leaders say matters more. It matters to God – that is, the One True God. We'll talk more about the implications of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry saying "If Allah wills it" in the next post on Thursday. Please stop back by then.

2015 Amazing Worldwide Event #4 Linked to Bible Prophecy: The Coming Fourth Lunar Eclipse in September

The fourth and final amazing worldwide event linked to Bible prophecy that we can foresee coming in 2015 is the fourth and final total lunar eclipse of the 2014 – 2015 tetrad. (Tweet that!)

This total lunar eclipse will occur on September 28, 2015, the Feast of Tabernacles, only two weeks after the Shemitah. (Tweet that!) I wonder what the world will look like at that point? I do expect major events to occur on the Shemitah, or perhaps before.

Am I foolish in openly predicting such a thing? I don't think so. I'm not the one predicting it. God is writing in the skies where EVERYONE can see -- whether or not they have a Bible, a TV, internet, or can read a blog like this one. (Tweet that!) God is shouting through all of these signs -- signs in the sun and moon and more. (Tweet that!) So will I be put to shame if my prediction doesn't come true? (Tweet that!) I don't believe I'll be put to shame on that.

For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame” (Romans 10:11).

How the United States of America is Like First-Century Israel in the Bible

As I wrote my previous post, "Lawlessness" in Bible Prophecy: Are We Seeing It Now?, it occurred to me how much we, here in the United States, are like that first-century crowd  in Israel who witnessed the first coming of Jesus.

So many people in our day see the problems facing our world and the devastation that is coming. In the United States we see the wrong-doing and the wrong choices being made and forced upon us by those in leadership in our nation. (Tweet that!)

We know that the United States of America is not too big to fail. (Tweet that!)

We are desperate for solutions. We know the solutions--moving back towards the one true God of the Bible, His way of doing things, and honoring Him in our nation--and yet we are helpless to carry out any such ideas because most of those in leadership insist on going their own way, on not listening to the people, on forcing wrong policies on us. We do have some good people in leadership, but they are too few, even when they band together, to overcome the majority who are taking us in the wrong direction.

As so what do we do? We look forward to the next election. We hope that the next election will remove more of those who are leading our country in the wrong direction and will put into places of leadership and power more people who will lead us in a right direction.

But we have been trying to correct the course our country is on for several elections now, and while we may make progress, it has not yet been enough to make a difference in the direction our nation is moving in between those elections.

Our elections of our political leaders are too few and too far in between, while meanwhile decisions are being made every week or every day that take us farther down the wrong path.

We are looking for a political solution to our problems.

This is exactly what the first-century people in Israel were doing the first time Jesus came. They expected Jesus to be a political leader who would deliver them from the occupying forces of Rome and their Roman oppressors.

Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself. (John 6:15, ESV)

Don't get me wrong. Please! I am so very grateful for the hard work of those who run for office and campaign so hard to win in order to become our leaders who will turn this country back toward the right course.

I am also so very grateful for those conservative commentators who work so hard to education the people and make a difference in our county.

I believe history will honor men like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity for their extraordinary efforts to make a positive difference in the United States of America.

However, as I watch them and listen, and as I watch our elections, I am reminded of their past campaigns such as Sean Hannity's "Defeat Obama Express" and Rush Limbaugh's "Operation Chaos." And yet despite all their efforts, President Obama still won the election. Again.

So what does this say? To me it says we will not find a political solution.

So what are we to think about these men and their efforts? I believe these conservative commentators are doing a remarkable job that must be done. (And these are only two examples of many men and women who are doing similar work.) They are talking about what is wrong with our nation, and because of them in the end there will be no excuse for anyone not knowing what was going on, what was wrong, and what could have been done to make it right. (Tweet that!) In a very real sense, they are doing God's work.

But at the same time, I don't believe there will be a political solution to the problems facing America. I don't believe we will be able to wait for enough elections to replace those leading us in a wrong direction with those who would lead is in a right direction.

I believe it's all too little and too late. I believe we're already over the cliff; it's just going to take us a while to hit the bottom. Yes, I'm pretty pessimistic about the future of the United States of America.

That's probably why political commentators don't talk about Bible prophecy. That's probably also why I wouldn't make a good talk show host. (Tweet that!)

To those who are doing such work, whether in political commentary or in running for office, please keep on. Keep working. Don't ever give up. We need you. I need you. Keep on doing good. Keep on calling out wrong, promoting right, and defining the difference. (Tweet that!)

In the end, we need to know that everything that possibly could be done to redirect our nation onto a right path, right in God's sight, has been done. That's important. (Tweet that!)

But in the end, the Bible prophecies will be fulfilled. So whether that comes sooner or later, whatever happens in or to the United States of America, the ultimate answer is not in politics but in individuals and national leaders looking to and following the Lord Jesus Christ.

In return, Israel's leader, Benjamin Netanyahu, rebuked American saying this criticism of Israel is "against the American values." (Tweet that!)
