2015 Amazing Worldwide Event #3 Linked to Bible Prophecy: The Coming Shemitah in September

The Shemitah is coming later this year -- on September 13th to be exact -- and it is vitally important that you and your family know about it before it arrives, because it brings with it some amazing potential to link into Bible prophecy. (Tweet that!)

I only learned about the Shemitah in recent years. I blogged some introductory information about the Shemitah last October and I've put links to those articles below.

I learned most of what I know of the Shemitah from Rabbi and author Jonathan Cahn. You can hear him speak about this topic in two videos included in those links at the bottom of this post. I truly hope you will take the time to listen to those videos. (Tweet that!) They aren't that long but the information is so very important.

Jonathan Cahn has also written a book about this event which I'm looking forward to reading, The Mystery of the Shemitah.

For now, let me once again give you some basic information. I plan to discuss the Shemitah much more in the near future.

The Shemitah is both a year and an event on the last day of the Shemitah year. (Tweet that!)

The idea of the Shemitah is a Jewish idea given to the Hebrew people centuries before Jesus.

It is based on the idea that God created everything in six days and rested from His work of creation on the seventh. God also instructed that His people should work six days and rest on the seventh  -- a Sabbath rest. This principle extends to the land: the Jewish people were to work the land for six years and let the land rest on the seventh. The seventh year in this seven-year cycle is the Shemitah year.

There is also a cycle of seven of these seven-year cycles, or forty nine years. The following year, the fiftieth, is the Year of Jubilee.

In the Shemitah year, besides letting the land rest and the people rest from working it, all debts were cancelled. This is an incredible financial blessing.

This cancellation of debts takes place on the last day of the Shemitah year. On the Jewish calendar, the last month is Elul and the last day is the 29th. Therefore the Shemitah always falls on Elul 29.

Now I'm sure you're wondering what all of that has to do with us today? Remember this principle: God gives principles to live by and when people obey them they receive blessings; when people do not obey them they experience consequences. While we are free to obey or not, in the end the way of God will prevail regardless.

In this case, some see the turning away from God of America to be removing His blessing from this nation. And on those dates where important things are to happen, things happen that bring the consequences of turning away from God.

What I'm referring to is the fact that on the previous two Shemitahs, the United States has experienced profound financial events (Tweet that!):

  • September 17, 2001: Six days after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the stock market re-opened and dropped 700 points, or 7%, in one day. This was its greatest loss in its history up to that date. On the Jewish calendar, it was the last day of the Shemitah year: Elul 29.
  • September 29, 2008: Seven years later, after the government bailout of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, and the bankruptcy (rather than accept a government bailout) of Lehmann Brothers, the stock market plunged again. This time it again dropped 7%. In points that 777.7 points. That equated to wiping out everything it had gained in the past seven years. Now this became the largest one-day drop in its history. Again, on the Jewish calendar, it was the last day of the Shemitah year: Elul 29.

We are currently living within a Shemitah year on the Jewish calendar. The corresponding dates on the calendar we use in the west means this Shemitah year began on September 25, 2014 and it will end on September 13, 2015. (Tweet that!)

Interestingly, the solar eclipse mentioned in my post on January 10, 2015: Amazing Worldwide Event #1 - The Coming Solar Eclipse in March, will occur on the exact mid-point of this Shemitah year. (Tweet that!

We will talk more about the Shemitah in future posts. In the mean time, please learn more about the Shemitah through these previous posts (Tweet that!):
